The Five Facts You Didn't Know About the Rockefeller Christmas Tree!

Since the Rockefeller Christmas Tree will be lit tonight in New York City, I thought I would post the five facts you may not know about this great tradition! So pack your sleigh and here we go:

1. The first tree debuted on Christmas Eve 1931. THE PICTURE ABOVE IS OF THE FIRST ROCKEFELLER TREE.

2. The current star used to adorn the current tree is a 550-lb. Swarovski star unveiled in 2009. It costs roughly $1.5 million  and is made of 25,000 crystals and 1 million facets.

3. In 1944, three trees were actually displayed in Rockefeller Center but remaind unlit do to the blackout that were required at night because of WWII.

4. In 1951, the Rockefeller tree made its first appearance on television when the lighting ceremony was shown on The Kate Smith Show.

5. Time Magazine reports that the 2010 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree stands 74 ft. tall and weighs 12 tons. Before this holiday season, it lived in Mahopac, N.Y.

The Actual Cost of the Gifts of 12 Days of Christmas....Are you Ready?

As reported by the Chicago Tribune, what is the actual cost if you bought all the gifts from the 12 Days of Christmas this year?

"Trying to buy the 364 items repeated in all the song's verses — from 12 drummers drumming to a partridge in a pear tree — would cost $96,824, an increase of 10.8 percent over last year, according to the annual Christmas Price Index compiled by PNC Wealth Management."

"Only four of the 12 gifts in the song didn't go up in price from last year: the pear tree ($149, not including the partridge), four calling birds ($599.96), six geese ($150) and the eight maids-a-milking ($58)."

The most expensive gift:  Hiring nine ladies dancing would cost on average: $6,294.03

1. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CHRISTMAS LIST! - This will make sure you do not venture out of your budget this holiday season.

2. TRACK WHAT YOU SPEND! - Do you really need that Cinnabon everytime you shop? Keep withing your set limits ladies and gentlemen!

3. TAKE THE TIME AND DO COMPARISON SHOPPING! - This will guarantee to save you money! Don't be lazy. LOLOL

4. GIVE HOMEMADE GIFTS A SECOND LOOK! - Gifts from your home may have more of an impact in someone's life than a box of store bought Christmas Meat Sticks!!

5. DO NOT BUY WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE AT HOME! - Do you really need those decorations for your house??? THINK FIRST, THEN BUY!!!

Christmas News Update: What Kids Want this Year!!!

 

Yahoo!News is reporting that the gift most kids want this Christmas is (drum roll please)....Apple's iPad! Nielsen recently reported through Yahoo! that 31% of American kids ages 6 to 12 want an iPad over any other device! 29% reported that they wanted and iPod Touch. 11% stated they wanted and e-reader as well.

Well folks, when I was in the age range of 6 -12, all I wanted was He-Man and Garbage Pail Kids. So stick it. LOL. We were lucky to have an Atari at our house!

What are you asking for this Christmas!!! And don't say Meat Sticks!! LOLOLOL
